THE DYING INDUSTRY IN TAMIL NADU
3rd April 2013, Thippichatti Palayam, Tamil Nadu, India. Rock crumbles into shards as a man kicks it - caused it is thought by suspected chemical dumping thought to be from local dyeing factories nearby, on the banks of the Bhavani River near Thippichatti Palayam village on the outskirts of Bhavani on the 3rd April 2013, Tamil Nadu, India.
Since the explosion of the dyeing industry in Tamil Nadu between 1986 and 1989 when factory numbers soared from 99 to 450 the state has seen dramatic degradation of its rivers and water sources. Local activism continues to monitor and highlight the ongoing environmental impact
