THE DYING INDUSTRY IN TAMIL NADU
3rd April 2013, Thippichatti Palayam, Tamil Nadu, India. A woman working in a small-scale dyeing operation looks out of the door, in front of her is a small drain into which she said the dying effluent gets emptied, in Thippichatti Palayam village on the outskirts of Bhavani on the 3rd April 2013 in Kallipatti Village, Tamil Nadu, India.
Since the explosion of the dyeing industry in Tamil Nadu between 1986 and 1989 when factory numbers soared from 99 to 450 the state has seen dramatic degradation of its rivers and water sources. Local activism continues to monitor and highlight the ongoing environmental impact
